Ringinglow Y1

Miss Blagden teaches Y1.

Year 1 have had so much fun learning about the life and work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo over the last term. We found out how he came up with his unusual paintings full of hidden surprises and even had a go at making our own fruity collages inspired by his work. We enjoyed learning about Arcimboldo so much that we designed and made our own yummy fruit faces in our Design Technology lesson! Take a look through the photos of some of the work we have done.

Science Week- To infinity and beyond

There were so many exciting things going on in school last term but one event we really enjoyed was National Science Week. We found out all about Tim Peake and his expedition to the International Space Centre. We then found out some new facts about space travel and designed and made our own model rockets. Have a look at some of the results!

Things to look forward to in Year 1 during the Summer Term

  • In Literacy: We will be writing and performing our own rhymes inspired by the work of Michael Rosen and Quentin Blake. Have a look at us performing some poetry together. We will also be reading and writing some lovely traditional tales and maybe adding a few new twists…

  • In Science: We will be exploring and observing the changes we find in Summer and comparing them to Spring, Autumn and Winter. We will also be finding out about everyday materials and doing lots of fun experiments linked to this topic. Prepare for floating, sinking and investigations with magnets to name just a few!

  • In Topic: We will be looking in detail at Hathersage and comparing it to other villages, towns and cities. We will then be finding out about the transport in our local area in the past and how it differs from the transport we have today. As well as all that, we will also be building sculptures linked to transport in our Art lessons and designing and making working vehicles in our Design Technology lessons. Lots of fun to come! Have a look at us already hard at work experimenting with sculpture.
