Hathersage St. Michael's C of E (A) Primary School

Collective Worship

At Hathersage  Church of England (VA) Primary School, the daily act of Collective Worship is viewed as an integral and important part of school life. Through this and in the general ethos of the school we seek to promote our Christian Values which we call our Golden Value which permeate the ethos of the school. Collective Worship is a time when our school family, from a range of backgrounds, ages, beliefs and none, meets together at a special time of each day. We welcome the opportunity to reflect, sing, listen and celebrate as a school family.

As such, the contributions of staff, pupils, church clergy and other visitors are valued highly. Our Christian (Golden) Values of Hope, Friendship, Respect, Honesty, Perseverance and Forgiveness are embodied in the Parable of The Good Samaritan. Luke 10: v25-37,  ‘Jesus told him, Go and do likewise’

In our school we do this through Learning, Laughing and Living.

We also actively seek to encourage the attitudes of awe, wonder and reflection. We aim to blend Christian teaching and values in order to create opportunities for all children to develop physically, emotionally, personally, socially, mentally and intelligently so that their self-esteem and well-being is sound and supported by ever growing emotional intelligence; leading to an understanding of their rights and responsibilities as young citizens.

Worship is led by children, staff and representatives of the Methodist and Anglican (Church of England) churches in the Parish of Hathersage and Outseats. At the beginning of a week the theme is introduced. These are always 'in person' however, daily collective worship has taken place  via  Microsoft Teams or pre-recorded during the Covid Pandemic.

Collective Worship plays an important part in the life of our school. We have a daily Collective Worship with a different focus each day.

Monday: Whole School Collective Worship in the school hall or at a place of worship e.g. St. Michael and All Angels Parish Church, The Methodist Chapel, outside. This is led by our Collective Worship Monitors in Year 5.

Tuesday: Collective Worship focuses on a Christian ( Golden) Value.

Wednesday: Collective Worship focuses on Special dates in the Christian Calendar, British Values or Multi- Cultural Events.

Thursday: Collective Worship focuses on a Weekly Theme taken from The Bible.

Friday: Good News Collective Worship - A Celebratory Worship.

Children in our Nursery also have a daily Collective Worship in the form of song and prayer just before snack time.

Through whole school worship, class worship, relationships and discussion, we use bible stories to provide examples of our Weekly Theme and our Cristian      (Golden) Values and also explicitly give examples of how children can show and recognise examples of Golden Values within school. Each week, in our Good News Collective Worship, a Citizenship Certificate is given to one child from each class within our school in recognition of their efforts.  This presentation will be celebrated for being a great role model and demonstrating our Golden Values.  These examples of how they have done this are shared with the whole school.

Our Collective Worships follow the four-fold structure of 'Flippin Praise'; Gathering, Engaging, Responding and Sending.
